Our Climate Reality Story

My motivation is my deep love for nature, for my kids and for the greater community. I like supporting green innovation and would like to make an positive impact. My mind is always spinning around creative ideas trying to solve a good problem.

In 2013, our family lived an ordinary life in a town home in a mixed-income community in West Seattle, rushing to preschool, bus stop, work, diverse kids activities, errands, school meetings, workout. Just like everyone else around us - being part of the rat race.

I remember feeling isolated, spending most time with my young kids, missing old friends, adult conversations, depressed about my daily options and social life. One Summer Night I dreamed about bees.

The next morning I read about someone wanting to bring bees to my neighborhood to educate the community about their importance. I was intrigued by the idea. I sent her an email right away and went on a walk with Lauren. We became friends, came up with a plan and built a beautiful home for the bees in our little Park next to the Pea Patch.

As a family we met our neighbors, became part of a community and gradually also became environmental activists. We found a climate organization for families and slowly but surely stepped up our game. We rallied, went to Olympia to meet with our legislators, marched, wrote letters and postcards, our kids gave speeches, we testified for Clean Air and our commitment to lead a good fight became stronger.

We took in the values - we moved to a smaller home, changed our lifestyle and learnt less consume equals less rat race, which also allowed us to leave our stressful jobs.

Overall we make more conscious decisions about how we spend our time and money, how we shop grocery and clothes, how we entertain ourselves and who we call our friends.

This led us to the Climate Reality conference - with our friends - learning how we can become better leaders.

I would like to do more research on steps to prevent food scarcity, using less resources, rebuilding culture and community, educating, how important all this is.

Questions I want to find answers for:
What will grow in hot areas?
What will the future most likely look like?
What is the impact I can have?
What are the organizations that work on solutions and might need me?

It would be great to see more people being activated, requesting and making the right choices because they make conscious decisions.

Sharing our story and passion to inspire others.
