Planting trees in WA
2016 will be a very defining year for my family with new opportunities, growth, changes and plenty of ideas. We are working on leaving our world behind better as we found it. Big challenge. Our kids climate justice organization plans to plant lots and lots of trees as part of the worldwide "Billion Tree Campaign". This is a big number but needed to counterbalance the CO2 exhaust. If we all plant trees (about 150 per resident) we can turn it around. We want to plan our share of trees this year and will try to advocate and educate for the campaign by traveling to as many WA national parks as possible.
Becoming a Beekeeper

I once did a presentation about bees in 10th grade and ever since I was fascinated by bees. I had a dream about becoming a beekeeper one night last summer and the next day I read something about my neighbor Lauren starting a beehive project. So, I connected with her and we started working on this. (In Progress: Beekeeping Apprentice with Krista)
Giving a TED Talk

I would love to give a TED Talk about a topic I am passionate about and that might be worth talking about to change the world a tiny bit to the better. I feel really inspired by most, if not all of these TED Talks. One I love in particular is the one from Joe Smith about 'How to use a paper towel'. Love it.
World Travel

I would like to take my family on a world travel to Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, New Zealand, Egypt, Iceland, Brazil, Costa Rica, South Africa, Russia, Sweden, Ireland, Spain and a couple of other countries. Maybe on a big mission to spread some environmental message or bring people together over food, music, games. We still have to work on this big life dream of ours and wait til our kids are a little big older so they can remember this adventure.
See a whale

Easier said than done. We live close to Puget Sound where Orcas whales swim by in pods every winter, but I haven't seen one so far. I guess, I just keep looking.
Driving an old convertible over the summer

We had the pleasure to ride an old VW polo convertible in Honolulu for a couple of days last summer. Friends living in Honolulu were on vacation and borrowed it to us. That was more fun than expected for us we-could-not-care-less-about-cars people. So I would like to do this again over the summer.
We rented a 1983 VW Bus this summer, but it wasn't a convertible, so I got close, but it doesn't count to check this item off.

Build a tumbleweed home

Thought about getting a trailer, but custom building sounds so much more fun. I have to pick up some skills before I can put this together, but I would love to do this some day. Who can teach me carpentry?
Run a 10K

I started running after my daughter was born and loved it. To run my first 5K I trained for 6 weeks. My goal now is to run a 10K. I tried to run one in 2012 but did not find enough time to train in between kids and battling numerous colds. I hope 2013 will be better health wise, so I can get on this again. Made it to 7.5K before I was out with a foot injury. Had to wait til it's healed and can start training again.
Wine Tour in Napa Valley

Kid-less wine touring in California. We envisioned this on our last trip to San Francisco, but had the kids (2 years and 6 months back then) in tow and passed on this adventure. But if we would ever have the chance again, I would love to do this. Maybe even bring along some friends. We went on a wine tour in South Africa (where I became pregnant with Tim) and one in Ensenada (with Tim), but Napa would really look forward to.
Travelling the US

Don't know if we should go for 50 states or just a couple of the great, great National Parks, but I would love to get on this in the next 5 to 10 years, or if we get super busy maybe when we are old. :-) See Mount Rushmore would be on this list. Disney World in Orlando. Boston. San Antonio. Colorado.
Will we had a pretty epic trip to Jasper and Banff National Parks this summer, we still have so much left to explore in this beautiful country. We haven't traveled to the east coast with the kids at all.

Give my Mom financial security

Aging is not always fun, but knowing you don't have to fear running out of money at any point while getting older is clearly helping to have more fun and enjoying lots of travel, experiences and life long learning opportunities.
Guinness World Records Attempt

I would like to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt. I don't care what it is, it should be just doable and not involve lots of training or risky things. Just fun things. Like baking the longest baguette or something like that.
Live in LA

Living in LA for a couple of months is on my list. In LA I landed when I came to the US for the first time. In LA I went to UCLA and had a great time and found some lifelong friends. In LA I tried to start my career after college living in a ran down hostel on Hollywood Boulevard for a couple of weeks, heading down some blocks to the public library to get internet access. I ran out of money and had to head home way too early. So I would like to come back and spend some time there again. Not for long, but for a couple of months.
Successfully running some businesses

I would like to run my own business that makes some people happy by providing services or products and brings in money to finance a moderate life for me and my family with enough money to add some fun, follow passions and check off some items on this list.
I got to run some businesses over the years and while they are all still around, I still feel a bit like a fraud to say I made them successful. I wish I could without doubt and will work on this over the next years.

Renting a beach cottage on Bora Bora

Having a couple of relaxing days on Bora Bora with my favorite person. A typical honeymoon destination, but we went for South Africa instead. Maybe for our 15th anniversary or so? Or maybe a less popular and expensive but still beautiful tropic paradise would do it too. Like to stay in a cabin over water with fruit plates on the patio and just one step away from colorful fish while snorkeling.
Supporting a young business as Business Angel

I am still learning and trying a lot, but if I ever feel like I have it down successfully, I would love to spread my knowledge to young businesses. So "becoming a successful business owner" could have first, and after some years and fun with it, I would love to do this later.
Getting closer to this by discovering the Women's Incubator that I will partner with for a bit.

Flying in a hot balloon

Not done yet, so I would like to check this out. It would be nice to fly over some vineyards, lakes and mountains and maybe even see the sea from far away.
Getting a tattoo from all the items I crossed off my list

Surfing other people's bucket lists for inspiration I found this one: a tattoo of all the things you were able to cross off your list. I assume this would take place in my late 60ies or so, if I am lucky enough to get there and have some fun and opportunities to cross off some stuff on the way. Already thinking about how this tattoo would look like, if I can cross off some more. Or I just get my favorite tattoo, the little lawn mover man instead, when I am 66. :-)
