05.45 (approx.) Sick Sarah comes in with a big bang, door shut,
snuggles in next to me, kicks me for the next 1.5 hours 08.10 Checkin on Tim, still asleep, but wet 08.30 Tim up and energetic, fast Breakfast, Checkin on Tim's rash, 08.51 Call Swedish for clarification if contagious (preschool day), multitasking laundry, kids, google search on boys nighttime underwear 9.00 Decision to skip preschool visit because of unidentified rash 10.19 Call back from Swedish nurse: "Heat rash?" Haha. "No!" It was cloudy with a chance of sunshine for about an hour yesterday, but not full-body-heat-rash-sunny. Where is this nurse located? Scheduled for Doctor appointment. 11.40 Check In at Swedish, waiting for Dr. Scott 11.50 Waiting for Dr. Scott with a not-so-happy, snotty Sarah - opening door and all drawers, throwing fits if I don't let her, screaming when held, fun. 12.00 Dr. Scott appears, exams Tim, Tim giggles a lot. 12.10 Confirms similarity to measle rash, but can't be measles, no fever, no cold symptoms, just rash, after 2. shots in Jan 10 reached full-immunization (99%), but one recent not-vaccinated measle case in West Seattle, so Public Health is on alert Dr. Scott leaves exam room to call Public Health Department for advice, both kids tired, hungry and rambunctious 12.15 Dr. returns with list of locations the Measle kid went to, waits for call back from Public Health if we have to stay for further testing 12.29 Call Marco for clarification of shopping locations on Feb 13 while Sarah screams in my arms, Tim tears down paper roll from exam table 12.35 Dr. Scott releases us - her diagnosis: Measles highly unlikely - expects another disease (something with "five") not contagious as soon as rash shows - will let us know by phone if we need further tests, gives OK for grocery shopping, school visits and public life 12.45 putting worn-out kids in the car, 3 minute-silence provided by lollipops 12.48 Marco calls to confirm matching location with measle case (QFC Westwood) for Feb 13 (secret Valentine's shopping for Mom), which skyrocks the chances of measles again, should return for measle testing, but kids too hungry for now 12.55 quick stop at McD drive-through (best invention for Moms with contagious kids), "recharging our batteries" ;-) for another round of Swedish 1.00 car loaded with lots of healthy, tasteless McD food, luncheon in parking lot, Tim requests Spanish kids music, mood improves with every single bite and tune - just 2 wrong items packed by the great McD staff, but who cares at a already kind of shitty day 1.05 retracing Tim's steps for the last 2 weeks, possibly spreading measles all over Seattle (and we did particularly lots of outings these days: YMCA, Community Centers, Zoo, Swedish, Aquarium, restaurants and grocery store every other day, school tours, playgrounds, church). Great fun. 1.10 Tim has to pee, can't go inside if measles,... what to do? 1.25 Call from Marco - double checked Creditcard statement and found out he was at another QFC store on Feb 13, great relieve, so no further testing needed, no need to go back to Swedish, no need for Public Health to get nosy and involved, time to head home, getting kids ready to take off, but... 1.44 Car won't start. Call Marco for rescue advice. No idea. Empty battery? Marco looks up bus schedule, just 1 transfer, 25 min ride with 2 tired, sick kids, great. 5 min til bus comes, rain, not prepared for bus ride 1.50 dragging 2 whiny kids to bus stop, Tim complains about being cold and miserable 2.00 bus no show, going over to Plan B 2.02 Plan B: calling Claudia, who happens to live 4 blocks down the street 2.05 Plan C, calling Tow company, $85 charge for jump start (special rate for McD customer), 2 hours time window, great :( 2.05 back to Plan B, call back from Claudia, her folks just on the way, come to my rescue 2.10 missed call from Marco while standing in the rain getting a jump start 2.15 Tim asks if it is his fault the car was broken, because he peed on the tire 2.20 on the road again, yeah! What a great morning! Senseless driving around to charge battery. 3.00 home just in time for naps & time to share my shitty day protocol on facebook :-) Thanks Claudia + folks!
