We had 3 wonderful knowledgeable guides showing us Longfellow Creek with new eyes. First we learnt about the bog around Westwood Village and the watershed that we live in. We then walked along the creek next to the golf course and saw some erosion. We learnt that the salmons still make it up the creek but only to the first tunnel from the Sound.
We learnt about the creek bridge and how someone cut out a piece to sit on the middle - so the Project Manager built a little platform bench to sit on. We got to hold a beaver tail. Listened to restoration effort and lots of birds. Thanks Elaine, Susan and you who I forgot your name. Three great High School girls came out to help me plant some Indian Plums, build a fence out of branches and blackberry canes and pull some ivy in Bee Heaven. Sarah and some of her friends came out and helped us move some mulch.
It's funny how different one work party is from the next - in volunteers, tasks, weather and all. Best acrobatics to be seen right outside our kitchen window. One Douglas squirrel climbs the feeder while the others wait for the food to be dropped down to them. Teamwork.
for all the wonderful opportunities this year gave me. For doing meaningful work. For inspiring friends. For healthy kids. For curious minds. For a great neighborhood. For community.
Removed a bunch of ivy along the north edge. Thanks for Zac and his Dad for coming out on this rainy day and for Shelly bringing us hot cocoa for break.
Made a trip to Camp Long for Green Seattle Day, helped with registration, Tim gave a short speech, 5 big volunteer groups (a brewery, P4tP, WSHS, a law firm) planted lots of new plants:
Weather is fantastic. We have tools. We have work. We have lots to do on October 27th from 4 to 6:30 pm meeting at the North side of Fairmount Park north of the playground.
Love this video showing how much fun we all can have in nature.
Our family participated in the Climate Reality Project Training in June together with some of our Plant for the Planet and Seattle350 friends.
Climate Reality Leadership Corps just released a video on youtube and Sarah and I made it (0:23). We also spotted our friends Jill, Sue, Rachel and Rusty in the video. |
